Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description
A representation of the Southern Cross consisting of five white stars on a blue background 1 15/16 inches (4.92 cm) in width within an arced border 3/32 inch (.24 cm) in width of white edged in red 5/32 inch (.40 cm) in width, above wave scrolls green and yellow below a representation of Ascension Island in yellow, entire insignia 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height.

Symbolism
The wave scrolls are representative of the South Atlantic Ocean and the colors are those of Brazil, while the projection above the wave scrolls is representative of Ascension Island.  The five stars on the field of blue represent the Southern Cross, while the border of red and white and the field of blue represent the National Colors.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 14 January 1944.
